Does it hurt? React as soon as possible, go to a specialist

The Department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery is attended by young people who do not even suspect that a disease process is developing in their joints. The symptoms are not obvious to the layman. These are, for example, back pain, knee pain. These may be signs of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Early diagnosis, supplemented by magnetic resonance imaging (in the hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Laboratory), gives a chance to save the joint and avoid endoprosthetics. Rescuing joints is one of the priorities of orthopedics. If possible, doctors avoid total endoprosthetics in favor of modern procedures that, thanks to the combination of cartilage reconstructions with corrections of the limb axis, ligament reconstructions – procedures are often performed in one stage – restore the patient’s fitness.

Mirosław Kulej, MD, PhD – Head of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery recommends:
“More and more patients with degenerative changes in the knee joints come to us. In many cases, these are young people actively practicing sports. A side effect of untreated injuries, lack of proper rehabilitation, intensive running in unsuitable shoes, on a hard surface. If your knees refuse to obey, let’s check it out. Ailments can be really unpleasant. Welcome to our hospital clinic. There, a diagnosis is made and, if necessary, a referral for surgery is issued. There are a relatively large number of patients using the outpatient clinic. If necessary, we are able to extend the working hours of the clinic. Sports must absolutely be practiced. Personally, I recommend cycling, which does not put too much strain on the joints. There are well-known medical studies that confirm that cycling extends the length and even the quality of life.
