“Heart from Heart” campaign – pillows for women after mastectomy for the Health Care Complex in Bolesławiec

On October 26, the Bolesławiec Women’s Association IN Gremio, together with Pracownia Rękodzieła operating at the MDK and the Bolesławiec Amazonek Club, organized a joint action of sewing pillows for women after mastectomy.

The “Heart from Heart” campaign was launched outside of Poland, but it also found eager followers in Poland last fall. It consists in sewing heart-shaped pillows that support the rehabilitation of patients after mastectomy at every stage – both immediately after surgery and when the surgery was before. Lymph node dissection disrupts lymph circulation. The pillow can soothe the pain of a surgical incision, protect against accidental impacts, help relieve swelling and reduce shoulder tension.

The IN Gremio Association decided to join this action and devote a few Saturday hours. The joint work of over twenty women and the time they devoted resulted in one hundred and ten pillows. Their special shape facilitates the recovery of women after mastectomy, relieves pain, reduces shoulder tension. For women joining the campaign, it is a great opportunity to volunteer for a good cause, to show empathy, to share their skills and time.

The awakening of empathy thanks to this action is also evidenced by the fact that the manufacturer of silicone balls, which are a special pillow filling, donated them completely free of charge.

“Because we are women, we believe that joint action helps not only those in need, but also those who help – we organized this action in our city. We hope that thanks to our pillows, the recovery of women after mastectomy will be easier. We also hope that the action will draw the attention of our colleagues to the importance of prevention and breast examination.” – writes the representative of In Gremio.

Each patient of the Healthcare Complex in Bolesławiec after breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy will be given a gift supporting the recovery process. Cancer is not a death sentence, and women with cancer are not alone.
