Innovative endoscopic procedure in a hospital in Bolesławiec

In the Endoscopy Laboratory at the ZOZ in Bolesławiec, a team led by dr. Paweł Remiszewski, MD, performed for the first time a procedure to remove a large intestine lesion, using the innovative EFTR endoscopic method, using a set dedicated exclusively to this type of surgery.

Using the kit, precancerous lesions within the walls of the large intestine and rectum are removed and treated. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The patient’s safety is supervised by a doctor-operator, anesthesiologist and a nursing team. The patient avoids extensive surgery, there is no need to create a stoma, and convalescence is incomparably shorter. Patients of all ages are eligible for this type of surgery.

After the procedure is completed and the changes are removed, the patient does not feel any pain. Significantly shortens the time of hospital stay. The discomfort that may occur is comparable to the feeling after a regular colonoscopy.

With the use of traditional – surgical – methods of removing lesions within the intestinal walls, there is a risk of complications. An additional advantage of the EFTR procedure is the excision of the entire tumor and then securing the resection site with a metal clip.

Treatments of this type are performed in few medical centers in Poland.
