A year in a pandemic – Summary of investments co-financed by the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship

The time has come to summarize the year of operation of the hospital in the conditions of a pandemic. Bolesławiec was visited by Cezary Przybylski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship together with Deputy Marshal Marcin Krzyżanowski, Andrzej Kredkowski, Vice-President of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Assembly. Everyone appreciated the cooperation with the director of the ZOZ in Bolesławiec, Tomasz Gabrysiak, the Starost of Bolesławiec, Piotr Roman, the President of the City of Bolesławiec, and local government officials of the communes forming the Bolesławiec Poviat. The provincial authorities trusted that the hospital staff, headed by the director of ZOZ Kamil Barczyk, supported by local authorities, would make good use of millions of subsidies donated to adapt hospital wards to functioning in the era of a pandemic.

Let’s remind. Due to the difficult epidemiological situation, it was necessary to create as many hospitalization places as possible for people infected with coronavirus, including respirator stations. By decision of the Lower Silesian Voivode, on March 16, 2020, the Health Care Complex in Bolesławiec was transformed into a single-name infectious hospital.

Currently, the hospital in Bolesławiec is the second largest diagnostic and treatment facility and is one of the main centers for treating patients with COVID-19 in Lower Silesia. It secures 88 beds for patients with suspected or confirmed infection, including 18 intensive care beds. All this was possible thanks to numerous grants and subsidies. From the Regional Operational Program of the Lower Silesian Voivodship (ROP WD), administered by the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodship.

In the first project, from the Regional Operational Program of the Lower Silesian Voivodship (RPO WD), Bolesławiec received funding in the amount of PLN 6,176,482.61. Thanks to this money, it was possible to create a molecular laboratory and equip the departments with the equipment necessary to fight the coronavirus. Once again, the hospital received over 8 million 200 thousand from the RPO WD. PLN for the purchase of a modular infectious ward with the necessary equipment.

The hospital in Bolesławiec, as one of the few units in Poland, provides medical services related to the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 in a comprehensive manner: its own imaging diagnostics, PCR molecular biology laboratory, 12 field swab collection points, three swab ambulances, an isolation room, a temporary hospital and a ward infectious. It is here that most patients on ventilators are treated.

During the second wave of the pandemic, the Health Care Team in Bolesławiec did not close for the needs of patients unaffected by COVID-19 who came for help. In the period from October 2020 to February 20, 2021, it provided health services to a total of 26,368 people from all over Poland. These were patients using specialist clinics and outpatient treatment. At the same time, 902 patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were hospitalized.
