The last stage of works in the new modular hospital

After 3.5 months of hard work, a modular hospital building was built, which is intended for the treatment of people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The decision to build it was made in the summer, when the number of infections did not exceed several hundred a day, and the number of hospitalized patients was relatively small. At that time, all experts warned about the autumn-winter period and the upcoming huge wave of infections. On August 15, construction works began, which consisted in preparing the site for the investment, and the transport and assembly of the modules ended on October 1. The process of transporting and assembling the 28 elements of the entire building took five nights. For two months, a building with an area of almost 1,300 m2 was completed and equipped at an express pace, with the potential of 65 beds, including 12 ventilator places. The hospital is a modern infrastructure, with comfortable living conditions, but also with full facilities for the medical staff. 1, 2 and 3-bed rooms with bathrooms are standard equipment of the hospital. Patients in excellent conditions will be treated with the most effective therapies available on the medical market by a qualified, experienced team of nearly 60 people.

The basis for the implementation of such a quick investment is the cooperation between the authorities of the poviat, city, marshal’s office and voivodship office. The voivodeship authorities showed a special participation in the implementation of the investment, which financed the investment in its entirety by redirecting funds from the EU budget. Construction and equipment cost a total of PLN 8.2 million.

This unique and very innovative investment on a Polish scale will allow a pediatric ward for people not infected with the virus to be launched in Bolesławiec from December. After the daily number of infections drops, the remaining departments, i.e. internal medicine and neurology, will be able to function.

After the end of the pandemic, a modular hospital, which is a full-size hospital building, will receive patients without infection, e.g. as a long-term care facility. The building was erected in accordance with the construction law, and its construction and adaptation will serve the local community for many years.

The hospital in Bolesławiec, as one of the few units in Poland, provides medical services related to the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 in a comprehensive manner – own imaging diagnostics, PCR molecular biology laboratory, 12 field points collection of swabs for coronavirus, three swab ambulances, an isolation room, a temporary hospital and an infectious disease ward. The hospital is one of the main treatment centers for COVID-19 patients in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It is here that most patients who are ventilated or non-invasive mechanical ventilation, CPAP and high-flow nasal oxygen therapy are treated. The ZOZ in Bolesławiec also has access to modern pharmacological therapies that help patients, which allows for effective treatment. Not only walls, equipment and medicines, but above all highly qualified and committed staff is the foundation for the recovery of patients with COVID-19. Over 1,200 people from all over Lower Silesia were treated at the Hospital in Bolesławiec with very good results in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19.
