The Pediatric Department has reopened

After almost a year’s break, the Pediatric Ward at the Healthcare Complex in Bolesławiec resumed its activities. Currently, the ward is able to accept 15 patients, but if necessary, it is possible to hospitalize more children.

From March 16, 2020, pediatrics in Bolesławiec de facto did not exist. The ward – after transforming the hospital into a single-name infectious disease facility – was occupied by patients infected with the coronavirus. After launching the infectious diseases modular hospital, the director of the ZOZ decided to proceed with the immediate renovation and modernization of paediatrics so that sick children do not have to be transported to hospitals in neighboring counties.

The ward is being equipped with equipment intended for quick diagnostics, e.g. gasometer – a device for measuring critical blood parameters (oxygen content in the blood) and CRP (reaction indicating inflammation in the body), cardiomonitors, defibrillators, pumps for administering drugs and liquids, quick tests for examining e.g. blood and urine parameters. PLN 600,000 was allocated for modernization works and equipment purchases. zloty.

Aleksandra Kopczyńska, specializing in paediatrics and neonatology, became the new head of the department. Two pediatricians and a resident joined the team.

Shutting down the branch and then resuming work forced many changes. The department is divided into two parts: clean and dirty. In the “dirty” zone – before being admitted to the hospital – children and their guardians are waiting for the results of coronavirus tests. If the tests confirm the infection, patients will go to a separate room, secured with a sluice. Only in the event of deterioration of health, patients will be transferred to the infectious diseases ward.

Importantly, during the entire treatment process, one guardian will be able to stay with the child at all times. Visits during the pandemic are of course excluded. For parents, the hospital bought new beds so that they could rest in decent conditions in these difficult times.
